Birds Love Urban Tolerant ShrubThe Viburnum Lantana, Viburnum 'Lantana', is a vigorous, handsome, urban-tolerant large shrub with gray green, leathery leaves and profuse, creamy-white blossoms.It produces red berries in August that turn a bluish-black in fall. The fruit causes mild upsets when eaten unripe or in large quantities. Birds and wildlife love them.Sometimes known as a wayfaring tree, it has an excellent mahogany fall color, and the foliage is retained late into the season. It matures to 15' with an equal spread, but can be pruned to any size.An easily grown plant, Lantana prefers well-drained soil, can grow in heavy clay soil, and takes full sun to part shade. This small tree grows best in alkaline soils.Thriving in woodland and woodland edges, ‘Lantana’ is multi-stemmed with stout branches.
