Summer Nights Delphinium
Vivacious VioletDelphinium Summer Nights, Delphinium grandiflorum 'Summer Nights', is a lovely dwarf variety that reaches only 12 tall! 'Summer Nights' is great for an edging or container plant. Butterflies and hummingbirds love the masses of deep violet blue flowers in late spring through early summer. The dark color contrasts nicely with bright pinks like Dianthus 'Shooting Star' PPAF. Plants are compact and bushy and no staking is necessary. Summer Nights' Delphiniums grow best in rich, well-drained soil with a basic pH. If your soil is naturally acidic, adding lime will help to provide these conditions. They are also heavy feeders. The addition of compost or manure to the soil, as well as a granular fertilize, will result in healthier, stronger plants.
