Kansas Peony
The Kansas Peony, Paeonia 'Kansas', produces double red flowers that are non-fading. ‘Kansas’ Peony is a Gold Medal Winner from the American Peony Society!The blooms are borne on extremely strong stems. Blooming in early June, this exceptional peony makes a statement in gardens and is a terrific cut flower. This stunning plant grows about 36 tall.‘Kansas’ blooms in mid to late spring and has very large, colorful blooms that stand out in the spring garden. This peony can handle dry to moist sites, and does best in full sun but can handle some light shade. Southerners should seek out our early bloomers and provide them with afternoon shade.Peonies can be planted in both spring and fall. They need at least 5 hours of full sun with rich well-draining soil. Water the new plant frequently to help it get off to a strong start. More often than not, the peony will not bloom the first year because it will spend the first season establishing itself!Peonies are one of the best cut flowers and are often used in the Midwest to decorate gravesites on Memorial Day. It is not uncommon to see peonies planted along the driveway or lane in a mass.
