Judd Viburnum
Garden Staple Since 1920Viburnums are one of those plants that you often see growing in the older, more dignified sections of town in front of huge old houses and you wonder to yourself, “What is that pretty shrub?”. That pretty shrub is Judd Viburnum (Viburnum X juddii). Introduced in 1920, this classic garden shrub has stood the test of time. It will certainly be a standout in your own garden! Growing to 6’-8’ tall and wide, it forms a pleasing round shape that doesn’t require a lot of pruning. Even if it’s only attribute was the dark green leafy silhouette it creates in your garden, it would be worth having. It makes a great hedge or foundation plant and is the backbone of many a perennial bed. But, believe it or not, it has more to offer! In spring it is covered in very fragrant white “snow-balls” of little star-shaped flowers that give way to black, bird-pleasing berries in the fall.
