Harry Lauder’s Walkingstick, Corylus avellana 'Contorta', is noted for its contorted, twisted growth, making it a real conversation piece when grown as a specimen plant. This unique deciduous shrub has interesting gnarled and twisted branches so it is often not grown primarily for its blooms but for this unusual branching pattern. Harry Lauder's Walkingstick has terrific yellow fall foliage color with showy greenish-yellow catkins (as on pussy willows) that brighten the winter scene. It does well in large containers and likes full sun. It is a slow grower to 8 to 10 feet tall and wide and prefers well drained soil in sun to part shade. The branches are valued for their use in flower arrangements.
