Native Shrub Thrives in Wet SoilThe Buttonbush, Cephalanthus occidentalis, is a rounded, 6 to 8 feet tall shrub with an equal spread. It occasionally reaches 10 to 12 feet.The foliage emerges in late spring and is one of the latest plants to break dormancy. It has a very open, almost gangly, habit of long branches and green foliage.The unusual flowers are creamy-white spherical heads, 1 to 1 1/4 inches long, with stamens protruding above the flower head, and blooms in late summer.The fruit is a nutlet that persists through winter. Birds love them. Deer and other wildlife feed on the winter twigs.It prefers moist and boggy soils and and for naturalizing in wet areas. It is not dry tolerant. It can be grown in full to part sun.The bright green foliage turns yellow orange in autumn.Native in the Eastern United States, from New Brunswick to Florida.Its' range extends west to Minnesota, Oklahoma and southern New Mexico, Arizona, California, into Mexico and Cuba.*Unusual Rounded White Flower Ball*Loves Moist to Boggy Soil*Yellow Orange Autumn Color
