Loblolly Pine Tree

Fast-Growing, Stately Pine Tree Loblolly Pine Trees, Pinus taeda, are some of the fastest-growing southern pines in the United States. One would make a dramatic shade tree for your yard, or plant several for a quickly established wind break. Your Loblolly Pine Tree is a remarkable tree of impressive stature. You can expect it to grow quickly, reaching its stately heights with a straight and true nature. As it reaches toward the sky, lower branches drop off, leaving an open, rounded crown with an evergreen appearance. The 6 to 10-inch long needles have a lively fragrance (leading to it sometimes being called Rosemary Pine). Its 2 to 6-inch light brown cones are a lovely accent and sometimes useful for craft projects. Reddish-brown, scaly bark appears to be attached in plates over the trunk, adding texture and definition to this already dramatic tree. Sometimes referred to as a “Bull Pine” for its massive size, you can expect your Loblolly Pine Tree to reach heights of 60 to 90 feet with a 40 to 50-foot spread. It’s highly prized for its use in pulpwood and lumber, and its resin also enjoys a rich history of being beneficial to our ancestors for medicinal uses. Your Loblolly will even be a friend to your wildlife. Deer and small mammals are sure to enjoy its rich seed harvest, and birds likewise use it for food and shelter. In fact, the endangered Red-Cockaded Woodpecker makes its home in the Loblolly Pine. Loblolly Pine is a common American tree. In fact, only the Red Maple is more common in the United States. With its varied uses, attractiveness to wildlife and general impressive stature it’s easy to see why a Loblolly Pine Tree would be a splendid addition to your yard this year. * Fast growing* Evergreen * Winter interest * Adaptive to a variety of soils * Drought tolerant * Fragrant * Wildlife interest* Deer Resistant
