Indio Mandarinquat
Eat the whole thing!The Indio Mandarinquat is – as the name suggests – a cross between a mandarin orange and a kumquat. It got the best of both parents. It has a “grown-up” citrus taste– mostly sweet, a little sour, like a sour tangerine. It can also be eaten whole, peel and all, like a kumquat. No more getting orange zest under your fingernails that you can’t get out for days. Just pick them, wash them, slice them and serve them!The fruit is bigger than a kumquat, but smaller than a tangerine. They are football shaped and have a nobby little end where they attached to the limb.These are really pretty ornamental lawn trees if you are lucky enough to live in a climate where citrus thrives. They are naturally short, pyramid-shaped and covered in fruit from December to April.
